In bioethics training, there has yet to be a consensus on the ideal characteristics of a program, including its format, duration, delivery method, Instructor qualifications, relevant topics, training frequency and target audience. Typically, these programs are aimed at university students, graduates, postgraduates, and professionals, often excluding high school students. It’s uncommon for participants from varying educational backgrounds to attend the same program.
Additionally, creating a school that is accessible and comprehensible to all participants, regardless of their educational level or background, poses a significant challenge. In addition, providing scholarships to support promising global learners who cannot pay the fees for such rare opportunities is an incredible feat for an educational project without a grant. In the just-concluded Spring Program 2024- Bioethics Education, I witnessed a matchless combination of cutting-edge topics, a touch of diversity, the use of modem pedagogy Interspersed with creative content, and an all-around well-thought-out design with well-chosen facilitators.
I attended this year’s online Spring course as a Nigerian scholarship recipient. Despite being new to the course and participating in a different time zone, the facilitators’ approach to the topics and their mastery, not of the topics only but of the audience, was simply beautiful. This training approach enabled me to navigate through each day’s lecture seamlessly, and despite being five hours apart, the rich content, stylish designs, and the cinema in between kept me alert until the end of each day’s activity As a bioethics educator, I will recommend this school for busy professionals, high school and university students, teachers of bioethics, and even those interested in developing paedagogical methods for bioethics or those looking for a template of an excellent short course in international bioethics. Those looking for an opportunity for a refresher course will find this course very fit for purpose.
