Dr Piyali Mitra, Director/Secretary.

Dr Mitra is a professional bioethicist with a passion for researching ethical, social, religious, and feminist issues that arise in the context of biomedical research. Her expertise includes giving seminars, reviewing papers and articles, and providing valuable advice on ethical matters. Dr Mitra’s academic background is quite impressive; she is an Alumnus of the Woolf Institute in Cambridge, UK, and has been a visiting scholar and participant in the Council for Research in Values and Philosophy at the Catholic University of America’s McLean Center for the Study of Culture and Values in Washington DC, USA.

Furthermore, she pursued her Ph.D. studies in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Calcutta, located in Kolkata, India, where she explored how ethical guidelines regarding the use of human embryos may impact research into various stages of development. One of her research focuses was to investigate different religious norms and their perspectives on life and the human embryo.

In her continuous pursuit of knowledge and professional development, Dr Mitra completed the Global Bioethics Summer School Course in 2020, obtaining bioethical training from the Global Bioethics Initiative, an organization based in New York City, USA, operating under the aegis of the United Nations Academic Impact in Action.
