About Us
The Addictions Department, also known as the National Addiction Centre (NAC), is one of the most productive addictions research groups in Europe. We represent a significant area of health-related study as the Addictions Clinical Academic Group (CAG) within King’s Health Partners. This collaboration brings together King’s College London with the NHS partners from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital, and Guy’s and St Thomas’.
About the Role
The RUN OUT study investigates the role of cannabis intoxication and cannabis withdrawal in psychosis relapse. Many individuals with psychotic disorders use cannabis, and its use is associated with negative outcomes like symptom exacerbation, relapse, and hospitalisation. Recent findings from our research group suggest that cannabis withdrawal syndrome can trigger psychosis relapse or exacerbate symptoms following hospital admission.
As a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting and contributing to the research project. You will be responsible for recruiting participants and collecting data, working across King’s Health Partners, at local A&E departments, inpatient wards, and with research participants who are acutely unwell. This full-time position is based at the Addictions Department (IoPPN), where you will collaborate with Dr. Edward Chesney and Prof. Marta Di Forti.
The role provides an opportunity to attend regular teaching events and training courses available at the IoPPN and KCL to further develop your skills and knowledge. You will be expected to contribute to the effective coordination of research activities with the RUN OUT team, using your strong organizational and communication abilities.
